Distribution of the Constitutional Population in 1870 View larger Distribution of the Population in 2000 Nighttime Photo As part of his Statistical Atlas of the United States, Superintendent of the Census Francis Walker produced, in 1874, a map that showed the distribution and density of people across the continental United States. This preserves the relative population totals across administrative units while matching the UN total. About 80 of the country’s total population lives in the European part of Russia. The population is most dense in the European part of the nation, with a more tempered climate, most concentrating in Moscow and Saint Petersburg. The resulting adjustment factor is multiplied by each administrative unit census value for the target year. The population density in Russia is just 8.4 per sq. The UN estimate for a given country (or state/territory) is divided by the total census estimate of population for the given country. Two versions of this dot distribution map are available: a large. The 2020 Population Distribution in the United States and Puerto Rico map (also referred to as the 'Nighttime Map') portrays the distribution of population in the United States and Puerto Rico based on the results of the 2020 Census of Population and Housing. The resulting maps are the most detailed and actionable tools available for aid and research organizations. Then we work with our partners at Columbia University to overlay general population estimates based on publicly available census data and other population statistics. ![]() To create our high-resolution maps, we use machine learning techniques to identify buildings from commercially available satellite images.
